Home Theatre Setup

Making Home Theatre Installation Easy

Installation of a home theatre system isn’t simple. Take some time to acquaint yourself with the owner’s manual, the instructions that come with it, and try and contain your excitement over ownership long enough to organize your thoughts and plan the set up.

To insure the proper installation you’ll need to set it up in steps that are usually included with the products. Start from the beginning and be patient as you learn to put it together properly.

Plan ahead

Take a look at the area you’ll be working with, the room’s dimensions and the placement of each component in your mind. Take into account furnishings and other objects that may obstruct the sound.

Where are you going to put the wires? Where will the speakers be? What will you need to do to connect them? when you are cutting speaker wire, allow for a few extra feet (or yards) of play so you can make adjustments later. Often you’ll cut the ends more than once over time, so don’t be stingy with the wiring.

Organize the wiring by coloring which will be identified in the instructions. Lay them out so you can make connections without fumbling around when it’s time to use your tools. Matching them up is easy if you plan the setup carefully.

If you need stand, wall-mounts, hangers or other props for your speakers, place them accordingly. You’ll be using up space along the way, so it will be easier to organize if everything is in it’s approximate position before you begin setting up.

Bulky speakers may require reinforcement if they are hung from ceilings or walls. Make sure you accomodate the weight of the speakers or other components by choosing the right hangers or wall mounts.

Preparation works for home theatre installation just like any other project. You’ll save time in the end and a lot of frustration if you take your time in the planning stages.

You might even find it an enjoyable experience. Especially when you hear and view the results of your efforts.

Power Supply

You are probably already running a lot of appliances that require electrical outlets. Especially in the living room. Home theatres will draw more power than most appliances like TV’s, PC’s or simple stereos.

Plan on a power-surge protector which is usually found in a strip which should accomodate the components you’ll be adding. Make sure it is placed so the components can reach it. If not buy another. You don’t want to damage your equipment when a few dollars will save the equipment you’ve just bought.

Above all, read the owner’s manual. It was intended to save you time, trouble as well as your equipment. It doesn’t cost anything extra, so put it to good use. Minor details are sometimes more important in the installation of home theatre than most other appliances.

The risk you take in skipping through it is not a good place to start. If you plan it carefully, you will find success and some knowledgability about your equipment along the way to getting it done right.
